In case you haven’t subscribed to Facebook’s official Statistics page, you may want to know the latest data. You may skip some of them, but there one that you cannot miss — the number of companies which implemented the Facebook on their sites, either through plugins or other features, has gone up to one million. Other figures may be less important but they are just as impressive. So read on and update yourselves with the data available.
The stats page is divided up into a few different sections. The top one, called “People on Facebook,” still says that more than 400 million people are using the site every month, like it did in February, and it still says that half of them log on every day, and that the average user has 130 friends. It also says that people spend more than 500 billion minutes per month on the service.
The category under “People on Facebook” is “Activity on Facebook”, which embody some numerical facts of status updates, videos, photos, events, groups and Pages in great details. These features used to be chopped into pieces and their data was closely discussed in separation. But now, they are as one. According to Facebook, over 160 millions “objects”, to which referred as events, groups and Pages, are used so far.
The average user is connected to 60 of these objects, and creates 70 “pieces of content” each month (definition: “web links, news stories, blog posts, notes, photo albums, etc.”).
There are as many as 25 billion “pieces of content” being shared on Facebook per month. Comparing the data with another one which was released in February, that 5 billion “pieces of content” were created per week, the number has bounced by a stunning 20 billion, if “created” and “shared” stand for the same idea. The soar is predictable, if one are aware of how Facebook is recruiting millions of people to its site every month.
“Global Reach” is a neglectful section, since there is no data update, besides the renaming of it from “International Growth”. Following is the Platform section, where some new exciting figures can be found. The first announcement is the increase in active applications number, from 500,000 to 550,000. Not exactly shocking, if you ask me.
Up next is a magnificent accomplishment, that the number of web sites joined Facebook Connect has jumped from 80,000 to 1 million. The introduction of Like Box and plugins in late April are some core contributors. Earlier this week Facebook announced that over 300,000 web sites have made use of plugins, and the trend is seemingly unstoppable. Not only nameless bloggers, but big companies such as CNN and other publications operated on the Internet are using the plugins service.
Can’t get enough? Here is one more piece of news. The number of people who experiment with “Facebook Connect” outside Facebook has increased from 60 million to 150 million. Unlike some bombastic widget companies which play tricks with numbers, Facebook is known to be self-demanding (for whatever reasons). Thus,
the 150 million people are believed not to be accidentally ran into Like Box but really using Facebook applications outside Facebook.
